Membership Categories

TOCOM offers four types of regular membership and one type of special membership in accordance with the type of business a member wishes to conduct as follow.

Regular Membership

 

Broker Membership

Broker Members must be a Japanese entity and may trade on their own account (i.e: proprietary account) as well as on behalf of their customers (i.e: customer account). They will have direct access to TOCOM markets.

Trade Membership

Trade Members must be a Japanese entity and may only conduct proprietary trades (i.e: no customer business). They will have direct access to TOCOM markets.

Remote Broker Membership*

Remote Broker Members are foreign entities licensed as equivalent to Commodity Derivatives Business Operators (i.e: FCMs) in the country where the office is located.They may trade on their own account (i.e: proprietary account) as well as on behalf of their customers (i.e: customer account). They may have direct access to TOCOM markets.

Remote Trade Membership*

Remote Trade Members are foreign entities and may only conduct proprietary trades (i.e: no customer business). They may have direct access to TOCOM markets.

 

*Although a business location in Japan is not a requirement, a Remote Broker Member and a Remote Trade Member must designate its clearing broker, or its representative in Japan pursuant to the Companies Act, as an Agent for Service of Process. These two types of Members also need to conclude a clearing agreement with its clearing broker.

Special Membership

 

Associate Membership

Associate Members must be a foreign entity who is a member of an exchange overseas or trade association which deals with a commodity that is listed on TOCOM markets. For application, please click here.

 


In addition to the membership category selected, a member's status at the Japan Commodity Clearing House (JCCH), the Exchange’s designated clearinghouse, will also determine the type of business one may conduct. For further information on the clearinghouse, please visit JCCH website.
